A great perspective, I think my motivation ebbs and flows , so it's interesting to read this, wondering if buying a second home( beach house) would motivate me, only kidding! Actually I'm motivated to learn more so I can be better resource for others, my clients, family and friends. Love reading your work.
Love reading about the management style of the late great Bob Jacob and his thoughts on what motivates people. I miss talking to him about work and my professional experiences have changed quite a bit since he passed! Motivation has been on my mind a lot since I JUST returned to work after a marathon maternity leave. I am finding myself very unmotivated to be here - until I hear other complain about work. Then I become super motivated to try and make it better / easier for others. He and I would have very different views as to what that looks like! Anyway, I enjoyed reading this and I miss him too :) your narrative style reminds me a lot of his - aka it’s good! Keep on writing, I enjoy reading what you have to say!
So so great, Steve, and so absolutely true. I'm saving this essay and coming back to it every few weeks to light a fire under my ass!

Necessity is the mother of intention...... Steve, thank you for putting the story of my professional life into very clear perspective.....
I like that line, "necessity is the mother of intention." That's what I'm here for.
